M-audio Fast Track C400 Cubase problem and solution

M-audio Fast Track C400 Cubase problem and solution

"No hardware found or hardware already in use" error

Since I bought that sound card i constantly have a driver problem. Cubase 5 cannot connect to fast track ASIO because of an error "No hardware found or hardware allready in use". I was constalntly unnistaled and installed the driver, but the error became frequent to the point where i turn off Cubase and by the next time i turn it on I get the same message.

I've tried searching the Internet but found none of the answers that not include reinstallation of the driver.

Also ASIO4ALL didn't work. It found the hardware, but couldn't play anything trough it because some other app used the hardware.

By my opinion, the best drivers for this card are version 1.0.6. All updates for the drivers are quite laggy, some of them are pretty noisy actualy, so i stick to first version.

Step by step solution.

1. Press WindowsKey+R
2. In the dialog box type services
3. When you open services go to FastTrack Service in my case C400 audio
4. RighClick over it and stop it if it is started.

Do not restart it because this is the application that is using your hardware. And it is set to automatic, so whenewer windows starts your ports to the soundcard are used by that service.

5. Voila! You can now use your preferable ASIO (whatever FastTrack Asio or ASIO4ALL) in your DAW program without reinstalling the drivers.

I have tried publishing this text to Avid forum but it requires some kind of registration so I've put it on my blog
